A number of myths about woollens have usually bothered us before as well as after shopping. Here are a few that we normally get to hear and it is high time we bust them and shop to our hearts content.
Woollens shrink on washing???
Wool, (obtained naturally) is a protein that grows in the form of hair/fur on the body of sheep, rabbits, goats, camelids, etc. just like human hair. And, the best thing is that when we wash our hair with cold water or hot water it does not shrink, and woollen fibres work in the same way. ACRYLIC OR SYNTHETIC FIBRES are not included. Never use ordinary detergents to wash your woollens, use woollen washes like EZEE and GENTLE only.
P.S. DONOT WASH WOOLLENS THAT ARE RECOMMENDED TO BE DRYCLEANED ONLY.
Woollens have bubble problems??
Often bubbles appear on the sleeves, around the elbows, this caused due to friction, but it is not an accurate parameter to judge the quality of the woollens you are using. One of the ways to avoid bubbles on sweaters, stoles and shawls is to avoid wearing woollen on top of another.
P.S. BUBBLES WITHOUT FRICTION IS SOMETHING TO WORRY ABOUT.
HOLES!!!! Pure wool is prone to holes or moth damage.
Any fabric, if not used for a long time, and put away without washing and proper drying is prone to holes or moth damage. A little care and your woollens would last for a lifetime. Before putting away your woollens, wash them or get them drycleaned, dry them properly by leaving them open overnight and then keep them where ever you want.
P.S. NOTE THAT THE FABRIC/ WOOLLEN YOU HAVE TO KEEP SHOULD BE SUPER CLEAN.
